SURVIVOR's brand of melodic, hard AOR netted the group several hits through the '80s, including two smash themes from Rocky films. The group's big break came in 1982 when Sylvester Stallone commissioned them to write the theme to Rocky III; the result, "Eye of the Tiger," was an instant hit with its bombastic opening riff and anthemic chorus. It spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard charts and pushed the accompanying album of the same name over the one million sales mark. Sekou’s new CD “The Next Level” could be characterized as a “musical ricochet” or a re-conquest of sorts. In fact, it is a reclamation project dedicated to reclaiming the preeminence of African American musicians at the forefront of contemporary music. Sekou is seeking to put the emphasis back on the music and musicians with “The Next Level.”

Althea Rene has worked more than 10 years as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff (Detroit, Michigan). Today, Ms. René is a full-time performing artist and is regarded among musicians and enthusiasts as one of the nations most exciting solo improvisational flautists. Although ‘In The Moment’ emphasizes Ms. Rene’s exceptional skill, soul, and artistic versatility; her live concerts better showcase her huge talent.

Gregg Karukas feels lucky to work with singers and musicians whom he feels a magical musical rapport with. "People say my music sounds romantic and uplifting - and I look so happy on stage, he says. Roxie Watson draws from the varied talents and musical histories of each of her members to deliver rich harmonies, amazing fretwork, and soulful solos. The Roxie Watson musicians are Beth Wheeler (Belloluna, Wendy Bucklew, The Brambles), Lenny Lasater (Lenny Lasater Electrical), Linda Bolley (Michelle Malone Band, Herman Put Down the Gun, Susi French Connection), Sonia Tetlow (Herman Put Down the Gun, The Paul Sanchez Rolling Road Show, Cowboy Mouth, STB), and Becky Shaw (Susi French Connection, STB, Reversing Hour). The acrobatic troop will return on Friday, October 15, 2010. Patrons may keep their Cirque D’or July 9 tickets and present them on October 15 to be seated in the same location as printed on the tickets.
