Words from the Coordinator
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to The Mable House and as well as to extend an invitation to come and meet us in person! The Mable House Complex is nothing more than a myriad of activity year around and with the continuing growth South Cobb County is experiencing it does not look like things are going to slow down anytime soon. And that is how we like it and exactly what we are hoping for. The Mable House has been Cobb County’s “little secret” for far too long and the time has come to tout and show off what Mableton has to offer Atlanta!
For those of you who are not aware this facility is tax supported and part of Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. And we are so grateful to have a county government and citizens that support us each and every day. I came to the Complex in 2005, but have been working for the Cultural Affairs Division of Cobb County since 2001. And before that, I utilized the programs and facilities of the Division as far back as 1994 and cannot imagine working anywhere else!
After spending the last twelve years in the arts, obtaining a degree in theatre performance, and spending time in the classroom teaching, my passion for subliminal arts education is immense! I believe that an art class or a theatre performance outside the walls of school is just as important as a neighborhood swim team or league sports program. If a child shows an interest, every facet should be explored. But, this passion does not rest with our community’s youth. But bridge us, as a community, into adulthood as well. Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up,” and as an adult I find it hard to stay in touch with my creative side and as an arts administrator, I am surrounded by creative people all the time! But, when it comes to the arts, Cobb County’s Cultural Affairs Division is where it’s at and it’s never to late to get in touch with your inner-child... I mean artist.
Our Complex truly has something for everyone: from the 3 month old in music and movement classes to the older adult wanting to take one of our many visual art classes at the Arts Center. Or, opportunities for elementary school field trips, private tours of the Historic Mable House Property presented by the Friends of the Mable House, Gallery exhibits sponsored year around by the South Cobb Arts Alliance (SCAA), annual events like the Christmas House, Mable’s Tea Room, Candy Cane Hunt, Artivity Day, and Holiday Home Tour, just to name a few. We are home for the Mableton ‘Met’ New Horizons Band, Georgia Friendship Quilters Guild, and the Covered Bridge Garden Club. And we cannot forget about the wealth of concerts at the amphitheatre, be sure to tune in every March when they announce their season… and never forget about the free Candlelight Concert Series put on by the SCAA and theatrical performances produced by The Theatre Project, South Cobb’s premier theatre troop for both youth and adults.
Please continue to visit our site often for seasonal events and changes in opportunities for families and friends. Call or email us to get your name on the mailing list to also receive “The Front Row”, the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs guide to what's happening in arts and recreation around your area of town.
Thanks again for your interest in the arts and the Mable House. I know you will find something that will feed those creative thoughts for you or your family. If you have an arts group needing a place to meet, give me a call or email me as well. Don't be afraid to suggest something new. The Mable House is all about creation.... Or the process of art. Without the patrons, we, the staff, would just create what we like. Think about where you would like to see your arts program go and then work with a staff member to make it happen.
On behalf of myself and the rest of the staff here at the Mable House Complex, thank you for visiting and we hope to see you in person real soon! And remember, “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” You don’t have to be afraid of being wrong with us.
