About the Amphitheatre

For a number of years, the Mableton community enjoyed the use of the historic Mable House grounds for a variety of activities. Events telling the history of the area, arts festivals, and local concert activities were some of the programs hosted on the grounds.

Citizen interest in the late 1970s in the construction of an amphitheater on the back section of the Mable House property prompted action. A fundraising drive was organized to make the facility a reality. While a number of people contributed, the effort fell short of the amount required for construction. The funds collected were used to improve grades in a natural amphitheater area on the property and a portable stage was used for community concerts.

Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre is the result of former Governor Roy Barnes' goal to provide Mableton with a quality outdoor theatre. Shortly after his election in 2000, he contacted the Cobb Board of Commissioners and asked that a program for such a facility be developed. This was quickly done and Governor Barnes, with the support of the local legislative delegation, provided a state grant for construction.

The 2,000-seat facility represents a $7 million dollar investment of state and local funds for a state-of-the-art amphitheater. A 20-year dream came true.
